Les Brown once said….”if you take responsibility for yourself you will develop a hunger to accomplish your dreams.”
HUNGER IS BETTER THAN MOTIVATION!
When we lack responsibility for ourselves we also lack a hunger to succeed.
When this happens we start relying on motivation to help us accomplish our dreams.
The problem is, motivation is a bastard that will abandon us the moment we need it most.
How is hunger different than motivation?……
Motivation operates on a cycle, sometimes we have it sometimes we don’t. Some can trigger it at will but most of us can’t.
Hunger to succeed on the other hand comes on naturally due to a burning desire. This type of hunger is present day in and day out…..you go to bed hungry and you wake up hungry.
When we are hungry for success, hunger only goes away when we have succeeded.
We don’t have to get motivated to become hungry for dinner….we naturally get hungry.
Likewise, when we are hungry for success, hunger comes and stay until we succeed.
When we are hungry for success it becomes a natural, biological requirement just like food hunger….it’s not phoney motivation…..it’s primal.
When we develop a hunger to accomplish, we achieve the same automated system.
We are hungry so we pursue our dreams…..just like when we are hungry and pursue nourishment.
When hunger to succeed comes, it provides all of the energy, inspiration, ideas, and drive, that we need to get on, and stay on, the path to success.
We might stay hungry for years or at least however long it takes to succeed.
How does one get hungry for success if they aren’t already?
As Les Brown says in the quote above….take responsibility for yourself.
Nobody is going to do this for you. It is you and only you responsible for your success.
If you live from that truth and take responsibility for your life you create meaning and purpose.
This creates pride, courage, and dignity.
When you become a man that takes full responsibility for his life you don’t need anything else other than your own spirit, commitment, and resolve to make your life all it can be.
Great men are hungry…..
……they don’t wait around for anything, including motivation.
They hold themselves accountable and that’s all the inspiration they need in this world.
It’s not the man against the world, it’s the man against the man…..the man in the mirror.
