How To Fix a Mediocre Life

mediocre lifeme·di·o·cre

/ˌmēdēˈōkər/

adjective

1. of only moderate quality; not very good.

When put into a sentence……”A life of only moderate quality, not very good.”

Ugh!

It’s painful just typing it.

Let’s not dwell on the past and try to figure out how a man’s life gets to this point. Lets instead focus on solutions.

I have three….

-Take ownership of your current station in life. Don’t sugarcoat it with excuses. You are here, this is the way things are, you and only you are accountable. Accept it with character and strength. This mindset will fortify your mental toughness and prepare you for more strenuous times ahead.

-Survey the damage. How far are you from the goals you set when you were younger and just getting started? Battle plan. Write out the big goals and track them. Change everything about how you view progress as you work towards your goals. You saw what mediocre thinking got you. Now it’s time to make a sea change level course correction to your expectations. You get what you expect, so expect far more than you ever have. No need for complexity. This is a simple process. Don’t lie to yourself. You know exactly what it is going to take, and you know exactly how hard it’s going to be. No more excuses. No more lies. No more mediocrity!

-Comfort kills! Commit to discomfort. If you cannot commit to discomfort, you will go right back to living a mediocre life. If you need help with this step, hire an accountability coach. If you would rather get help with accountability from a group of other men in the same boat, join The Iron Council over on the Order of Man or Strenuous Life on Art of Manliness. Shifting away from a comfortable (mediocre) life will require a fresh perspective, so get used to change. It’s the only way out of this. In summary, it’s time to Burn The Boats.

I lived a mediocre life. I lied to myself daily. I soothed my ego by telling myself I was doing enough when I wasn’t. I pretended like I was right where I should be, even though I knew I wasn’t even close. I normalized mediocrity.

I needed to move mountains to dig my way out of it, and it all started with item #1 above. I took ownership of my situation and never looked back.

I did all three things. I took ownership, I took an honest survey of where I was in life, and I dumped comfort and started doing hard things.

My life is so much better now.

Break out of your mediocre life!

Onward!
