I don’t burn calories trying to figure out the world of “self-improvement”
Many years ago someone helped me simplify my method of constant growth and self-betterment.
Now I am sharing that advice with you.
He said this….
“Do hard things. Lift heavy stuff.”
Simple.
Here’s why…..
When I pursue hard things instead of easy things I always wind up doing the most relevant and productive work. I used to actively avoid doing anything that was too hard.
When I constantly search for heavy stuff to lift, I keep my body strong and flexible.
Laughably, every single piece of self-improvement advice boils down to these two core concepts.
Sure things are dressed up with “undeniable” stats, case studies and research and a lot of it has value but the core concept that you’re left with at the end of the day is this…..
We have to master ourselves and become comfortable and consistent with
self-discipline in order for real change to occur.
The question is, do we need anything more than this core concept? In my opinion, no.
Can we just keep it simple and focus 100% on “Do hard things. Lift heavy stuff”? YES!
I know it because I live it.
I say these two sentences to myself hundreds of times each day. Every waking moment this is in my head. It is my mindset and my life philosophy in one.
It is the overriding discussion that I have with myself. My self-talk is dominated by directing myself to pursue the hardest thing to do and lift every heavy thing I can.
Everything I do is a variation of “Do hard things. Lift heavy stuff.”
I don’t stray because these two sentences dominate my internal dialogue. I can’t escape them and I don’t want to escape them, they have served me well.
We will talk a lot more about this in future posts.
Onward!
