Top 3 Excuses Men Use To Delay (sometimes forever) Starting Their Own Business and How to Overcome Them

The top three excuses we make:

-I don’t have the time. (due to long hours at current 9to5 job)

-I don’t have the money. (bills….too dangerous to take chances with so many bills and it costs money to open a business)

-I don’t have the energy. (hard work during the day means exhaustion at night)

Many men are perfectly happy with their current job and that’s great. This post is not for you guys.

This post is for the man that wants to be his own boss but can’t get out of his own way long enough to make it happen.

I didn’t need to research this article or verify that any of the above three excuses are accurate because I have lived through this entire process from soup to nuts. I also have been the leader of a men only Facebook Group for over three years. I have heard and done it all.

I could make this a long, dragged out analysis of each of the top three excuses but there is no need to do that. There are simple steps to get past the excuses.

Let’s get right to it.

The one thing that will stop the excuses and finally get you on track to becoming your own boss is mental toughness.

Mental toughness is defined as such…..“the ability to consistently perform towards the upper range of your talent and skill regardless of circumstances.”

Circumstances being the above stated top three excuses of course.

What this means is that you can, in spite of all the circumstances that have stopped you before, break through and finally create the life you have dreamed of…..the life that has you owning your own business and being your own boss.

There are five things you can start doing immediately that will develop your mental toughness and get you on the path to business ownership:

-Clarify in detail what success in business ownership looks and feels like. This is critical and it’s in the top slot of this list for a reason. You don’t need to journal or meditate on this. This vision you will hold in your mind’s eye. Use it to power you through energy dips. If your vision is clear enough it will provide limitless inspiration and motivation. This inspiration and motivation will fuel your days and nights and turn you into a relentless powerhouse of determination. More on this HERE.

-Get your attention under control and focus it on one thing. Do your current job and do it well but when the bell rings and you switch gears after work and on the weekends get your mind right and bare down with precision focus on what you are doing to create your business. There is a great book called Indistractable: How to Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life by Nir Eyal. I highly recommended you read this book ASAP. Without laser focus and directed attention you will struggle to overcome the “I don’t have the time” excuse.

-Get your stress and anxiety over money under control. Dedicate yourself to getting more sleep than you think you need, drink more water than you think you need, eat better than you think you need to, take excellent care of yourself starting right now! Meditate for ten minutes right when you wake up and ten minutes before you go to bed using the Headspace App. Do not blow this step off! This is a make or break step. Get it wrong and your stress and anxiety could derail you. When it comes to money you need to understand one calming thing…..where there is a will there’s a way. Stay calm and know that money will work itself out. You are smart enough to navigate the financial side of opening a business. Use the resources around you and trust that you will figure out creative ways to not go broke and lose everything. Find a business partner or two and spread the risk out. Take your time, this is not an overnight process.

Set a goal date to open your business. Not a casual goal. A definitive goal that is set in stone. “I WILL OPEN MY BUSINESS ON AUGUST 1, 2021”. Hard stop. This is not a negotiable date.

Get really, really positive right now and stay that way. Control your thoughts. Negativity is not allowed and failure is not an option. The only men that fail at business are the ones that think failure is a possible outcome. Eliminate failure as a possible outcome! Again, hard stop. This is not negotiable. You will succeed no matter what. YOU CANNOT FAIL IF YOU DON’T QUIT!!!

Mental toughness is required to start your own business but you’re up to it. You are tougher than you think. These steps will help fortify that mental toughness and make you unstoppable.

Let me remind you once again, this is how I did it myself.

I finally stopped the excuses and challenged myself to do what few others even try. I succeeded and haven’t worked for anyone other than myself for over fifteen years.
